Founded by Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod in 1981 to re-examine the classic repertoire in a fresh and unsentimentl way, focussing on the actors performance.The rise of the company was meteoric. "Cheek by Jowl" has represented Britain at most of the world's festivals with performances from Rio-de-Janeiro to Moscow. Last year "Time Magazine" pronounced "Cheek by Jowl" one of the ten great theatre companies in the world.
